NEUTER OR SPAY
ABOUT SPAY AND NEUTER

Generally, five to six months has been the conventional age for neutering, but it was arrived at using purely anecdotal information. "In addition, although many veterinarians express reluctance to perform pediatric neutering because of the lack of formal studies about the long-term effects, no studies have been performed to determine the long-term safety of performing the surgery at six to seven months of age, either.

"In our third-year surgery lectures, I discuss the advantages and safety of early spay/neuter," says Clare R. Gregory, DVM, DACVS, a professor in the Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences at UC-Davis. "In our experience at UC-Davis, the procedure is as safe as the procedures in older animals."

"Pediatric spay/neuter is safe and is less stressful on the patient than waiting until the animal is older, [when he or she also] loses the benefits of avoiding accidental pregnancy or mammary gland cancer, pyometras, false pregnancies, prostate disease and behavioral problems," says Miller.

"Most veterinarians who perform pediatric neutering admit that they prefer it to conventional age neutering, once they become comfortable performing it," Miller continues. "It is not microsurgery, and requires no special skills or equipment beyond good surgical technique and anesthesia. The patients are handled more easily, bleeding and fat are minimal, and the patients can go home the same day.

If you are wanting your new puppy to be neutered or spayed before they arrive this can also be done by my vet. He can do the little male puppies starting at 7 weeks of age for an additional $50.00. The little girls spay runs around $75.00 in addition to the price of the puppy you are purchasing.  The puppy does have to stay with me a extra week so I can watch the baby . This is very safe and better for the puppies at a younger age.  They heal quickly and bounce back much faster the younger they are. It is a lot like  this ,,,a young person having surgery will do much  better, heal much faster than a older person having the same surgery.

EARS CROPPED

If you are purchasing a breed of puppy that can have the ears cropped  and you are wanting them to be done,  my vet can do this for you.  He is very good at getting the little ears done just right . He can provide this service for $ 40.00  There is no extra time to let the puppy heal to get the puppy to you.  There are  no stitches for you to remove. The little ears will have some scabbing for about 2 weeks and then they look great. SO cute.
